Mao Feng Tea Origin

The Mao Feng tea is a famous green tea of high quality that is picked from wild tea grown in the area around the mountain of Huangshan in China. It is also referred to as Huangshan Mao Feng tea. The tea can be traced back to the 1800s a Chinese merchant named Xie Zheng An. He established the tea company that produces the tea which is run by one of his descendants, Mr. Xie Yi Ping. This green tea got its name because of the area where it is grown on the mountain as well as how it appears. The tea is very popular in China due to its taste, as well as due to its many uses. It is grown using traditional processing methods that have been passed down through the generations. The tea is harvested during the spring period.

The Taste, Aroma, and Appearance of Mao Feng Tea

The tea leaves are shaped in a way that they appear like a fur that is covering a mountain peak. It is processed in a special way which leads to the production of a strong, refreshing tea with an aroma of fresh orchid bloom. This tea is not bitter as some green teas are, instead it is a sweet tea, and it has a flavor that leaves an aftertaste long after one drunk it. The tea leaves are emerald-green. For its taste, as well as its aroma, are some of the things that are most loved by many of the customers who buy it. However, the taste can be adjusted while steeping by either raising or lowering the temperature as well as by choosing either a long or short period of steeping. The tea is one of China's most famous teas.

How the Mao Feng Tea is Steeped

The recommended utensils to use when brewing this tea are either porcelain or glass-based wares.

1. Rinse the tea ware with hot water.

2. Use 1-2.5 teaspoonfuls of the tea leaves per 225ml of water. Spring water is the recommended type of water.

3. Steep the leaves at a temperature of between 70℃ and 80℃ for an infusion time of one minute for both the first as well as the second brewing. Increase the steeping as well as the temperature gradually for the other subsequent brewing. It is recommended for the same leaves to be used for up to 3 infusions to maintain the taste. However, cooler temperatures along with shorter periods of time are known to produce softer, fruity elements while temperatures that are hotter together with longer steeping periods produces a tea that is stronger with a better complexity. Whichever is your preference, you can always adjust the steeping times and temperatures to get it.

4. A teapot with a removable infuser is recommended for one to enable one to remove the tea leaves at the end of the steeping process. However, a regular teapot can also be used, but in this case, one should pour the tea into a pitcher or into another pot after the steeping.

5. Enjoy! This tea is great for drinking at any time of the day.
